IBM - Patenting its way to the top

IBM inventors earned a record 6,180 U.S. patents in 2011 thus retaining the top position for winning patents for a record 19 years.These patents enable new innovations and add significant value to the company's products, services, including smarter solutions for retail, (yes, my area of work :-)banking, healthcare, transportation and other industries. These patented inventions also span a wide range of computing technologies poised to support a new generation of more cognitive, intelligent and insight-driven systems, processes and infrastructures for smarter commerce, shopping, medicine, transportation, and more.That makes me a very proud IBMer
And, if you are interested in some trivia - Facebook is buying quite a few of IBM patents to boost its defense.
